After a long hiatus, IIWII are back with a 4 track ep of cobblestone jazz cuts, some recorded live at the label launch party in January of 2001! Nonetheless, the tunes still sound fresh now with a nice balance of jazz, tracky house and groovy late night jams. On the A side we start with a rendition on Pharoh Sanders “the creator has a master plan” with vocoder lines massaging the 909 beats to great effect. This one brought the house down at the launch party, and is label boss Spencer Drennan’s favourite cobblestone tune to date! It is followed on the inside cut, “rumors”, a straight ahead jacking number. This too was from the launch party and is a simple jam that will go down a treat on the floors. The B side begins with another live jam, this time done in session a couple of days after an epic outdoor party on the westcoast of Vancouver island, where the trio had played live. The predominant melody source in this number is Jonsons haunting 101 line, bubbling around the mix for the balance of the tune. Last but not least is a super groovy edit of “the goods”, actually done by tyger dhula and label boss spencer drennan. The tune itself (if you can call it that) was actually a short sound check jam in a recording session that turned into a late night slinky number.
