After hearing Skinnerbox's debut album back in 2009, XLR8R posed a question regarding the future of techno. Instead of an answer, today we are simply pointing to Skinnerbox's brand-new work. Their new 12" entitled "Mary Of Exeter" is also their second BPC release. On this EP, the two Berliners Olaf Hilgenfeld and Iftah Gabbai celebrate their vision of modern dance floor music in four epic tracks, each of which unite seemingly incompatible musical elements - and do so with absolute ease - into records that are as electric as they are homogeneous. Their sound ranges from Skinnerbox's trademark - live avant-jazz fragments - to extensively atmospheric melodies to opulent electro compositions. The surprisingly catchy tracks are effortlessly held together with an aggressive house beat, which even turns the jazzy, crazy homage to Coltrane entitled "Jupiter Variations" into a floor filler. "Mary Of Exeter" is without a doubt one possible answer to the question posed at the beginning.
